ADOPTION GUIDLINES

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ADOPTION PROCESS

STEP 1: Visit Corning Animal Shelter & submit an adoption application

Prospective adopters must be 18 years of age, provide picture ID with current address, and spend at least 30 minutes with the dog you would like to adopt. If you already have a dog or two, they must be spayed/neutered and you must bring them with you so we can make sure that the dogs get along. Homes that already have three or more dogs will not be considered.

STEP 2: Schedule home visit

Yards must have secure fencing and dogs must be allowed to stay inside at night. Renters need landlord approval. Long-distance adopters must submit a vet reference in place of the home visit.

STEP 3: Sign adoption agreement, pay adoption fee, and take your dog home!

Adoption fees range between $50 and $150, depending on the age and size of the dog, and there is a $150 refundable spay/neuter deposit required for puppies under 5 months of age. Spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea treatment, dewormer, and microchip are all included the adoption fee. Heart worm testing is the adopter's responsibility. In the very unlikely event that the dog tests positive, Second Chance will pay for treatment at Walker St Vet in Orland or take the dog back.

STEP 4: Keep in touch
