How it started
Second Chance Pet Rescue was founded in 2002 when former president and caretaker, Debbie Eaglebarger, approached the City about working with the dogs at the animal shelter. The goal was to raise awareness about the shelter and prevent the euthanasia of adoptable dogs. Many wondered whether SCPR could pull it off but it didn’t take Debbie long to prove that she could.
Today, SCPR is made up of a group of volunteers who have all worked with Debbie and remain dedicated to giving adoptable dogs a second chance at life. In addition to adoption services, we provide regular exercise, training and all necessary medical treatment for the dogs at the Corning Animal Shelter. We also promote responsible pet parenthood through volunteer and community outreach programs. SCPR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization. We do not receive any government funding or grants, surviving solely on donations from private citizens like you.
ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED
Areas we serve
We serve Corning and surrounding areas including Chico, Redding and everything in between. We have also adopted to people in the Bay Area, Sacramento, Tahoe, Washington and Oregon.
Our Adoption Process
Adoption fees range between $50 and $150, depending on the age and size of the dog. Spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea treatment, dewormer, and microchip are all included. Prospective adopters must have secure fencing and agree to a home visit. Those coming from out of town may submit a vet reference in place of a home visit. All renters need landlord approval.
If you already have a dog or two, you must bring them to the shelter with you so we can make sure that they will get along with your new dog. Homes that already have three or more dogs will not be considered.
